Application Demo: Let's Work on the World Bank Group Young Professionals Program Application Together!
Sign up for the first of (hopefully) many 'Application Demo' virtual group sessions, where we'll work together to complete select online applications for Analyst/Associate graduate roles.
If you’re new here, welcome to Keep, Ding, Ghost! Remember that company that rejected your job application despite your strong CV? This newsletter will show you what probably happened. You may not always like what you hear, but it's better to hear it from me (L. C. Serrão) and fix any issues raised than be in the dark and let your top-choice employer use the same issues as the reason to reject your CV.
Hey, guys! The World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (YPP) application deadline is September 30, 2024, at 11:59 UTC.
The World Bank Group is made up of five separate entities: IBRD and IDA (collectively referred to as the World Bank), IFC, MIGA, and ICSID. The YPP accepts applications from those interested in each of these institutions except ICSID. If you’re interested in the IFC YPP route, I’ll be hosting a Keep, Ding, Ghost 'Application Demo', a virtual group session where we'll work together to discuss the details required to complete the online application. It’s a great opportunity if you have any questions or want to get tips on your CV, essay questions, etc!
How to sign up and prep for this Application Demo session
This Application Demo is an independently run session exclusive to Keep, Ding, Ghost premium and platinum subscribers. It is NOT affiliated with the company in any way, and any views expressed are my own.
Click here to RSVP so it's added to your calendar.
The session will be simultaneously hosted through Microsoft Teams and our subscribers-only chatroom in a dedicated new thread (join the chatroom now by clicking the button below). We’ll use this thread as the comment box during the session, and the link for Microsoft Teams will also be shared in this thread on the event day.
To ensure you’re ready to get the most out of the chatroom experience during the session, download the Substack app now by clicking the button below. When the live chat starts, you'll receive a notification through the app (assuming you’ve already joined the chatroom).
Make sure to review this post before the Application Demo, as it includes a list of factors to help you ensure your CV is in good shape and prepared to compete with other applicants. This post also presents my 'CV Competitiveness Scale,' which assesses how well-prepared your CV is to compete with others by assigning it a score on a five-point scale: 1) Needs Significant Improvement, 2) Below Average, 3) Average, 4) Above Average, and 5) Highly Competitive.
Below is a list of other recommended posts to catch up on before the session.
Brief overview & entry requirements for this graduate job opportunity
The IFC route of the YPP is a full-time Associate-level graduate role for those interested in working in buy-side impact investing/development finance. Historically, only about 1% of applicants get in. I was fortunate enough to have been one of them.
The WBG will review all applications submitted by the deadline, so there is no need to rush. I think I submitted mine about an hour or so before the deadline! I don’t recommend that, but you get my point! (And as a totally-almost reasonable defence, I only learned about the program a day or so before the deadline.)
The main entry requirements include having completed or being in the process of completing a master's-level degree or equivalent program (IFC prefers those with MBAs or an MSc in finance or similar subjects), having at least four years of full-time experience after your undergraduate degree program, and— for 2024 applicants— being born on or after October 1, 1992 (yeah, it’s pretty weird that they consider people in their 30s ‘young’, but I’m not complaining! LOL). Click here for the complete list of the eligibility requirements.
